A
NOT SO SIMPLE GUIDE TO SURVIVING IN AMERICA AS DEVISED
WHILE DRINKING THIRD-RATE WHISKEY IN A SEEDY BAR
DOWNTOWN
This is an ongoing project that is
being done in a variety of seedy bars around the country.
It started out in Des
Moines, Iowa, has traveled around
a bit and is now being continued in upstate New York.
Essentially I am compiling exactly what the project sounds
like: a guide.
Okay, perhaps that is an overstatement.
The guide is a trope being used to look at a wide range
of social, political, economic and cultural issues as
I see them in the United States. If you haven't guessed
it thus far from this site, I believe we are in trouble.
This project is in some ways about documenting this trouble,
in other ways about critiquing [and/or mocking], and
in other ways about proposing opportunities for change
[with a heavy emphasis on mocking and disdain].
I am not really sure how long this
project will continue; it tends to occur in bursts of
activity. I eventually plan to try to put it together
as a book project. The series thus far has been shown
a couple of times in gallery settings as a rather large
print, but you should feel free to print the individual
pages and use them as you see fit.
