OCCASIONAL
OCELOTS AND OTHER
ALPHABETIC OCCURRENCES
*Occasional Ocelots* was inspired by
the impending birth of my first child -- an undoubtedly
lovely and brilliant daughter -- and my dissatisfaction
with both the available room decorations and alphabet
books. Each of these prints was designed for the soon-to-be
daughter as part of a book for her before the idea of
actually trying to get it published ever occured to me.
Moving beyond the familiar pictures
and basic words found in most alphabet books, these prints
instead offer an eclectic vocabulary and dynamic illustrations
suitable for reading and rereading. Each print illustrates
a letter of the alphabet using sophisticated patterns
and associative relationships that encourage children
to explore and play with new letters, words, and images.
